OTSC Proctology Fistula Closure

Rapid, Minimally Invasive Closure of Ano-rectal fistulas

The procedure involves the application of a transanal Nitinol OTSC clip by an ergonomic one-hand operated instrument. The clip closes the internal opening of the fistula by digging its teeth into the sphincter muscle and compressing the proximal fistula tract. The fistula brush is used to prepare the tract prior to the application of the OTSC clip.

With the exception of the OTSC Proctology clip cutter, all OTSC Proctology products are disposable and designed for single patient use.

The OTSC Clip

The exceptional properties and therapeutic functions of the OTSC clip are based on its special materials and design. The super elastic Nitinol is biocompatible and if necessary, even suited to be applied as a long term implant.

The teeth of the OTSC clip are spaced wide enough to allow for microperfusion of blood to the tissue, ensuring tissue healing.

Principle of clip-tissue interaction in contrast to sutures

Closing of the internal fistula opening by sutures may result in re-opening of the fistula tract if the captured tissue shrinks and consolidates after surgery. In contrast to the static condition created by knotted threads, the OTSC clip permanently adapts to the thickness of the tissue and maintains a consistent compression on the internal fistula opening. The superelastic Nitinol characteristics and the design of the clip guarantee a permanent closure of the internal fistula opening rather than a static and therefore potentially inadequate closure like sutures.
